Make Treat bags from recycled packing paper September 19, 2011

I was inspired by the little treat bag in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini catalog.  It is on page 5 – the little bag that uses the owl from the Warmest of Wishes Hostess stamp set.  If you have ever received a box from Stampin’ Up! you know that they fill the empty space with brown paper.  I end up with lots of brown paper and I like to come up with ideas to use it instead of throwing it away.  Last year I saved it and wrapped all of our Christmas gifts in it.  I am going to start saving it to do that again.  But for now this little treat bag inspired another idea.  I can make my own treat bags!

This was one of the projects from my class on Friday -

I took a piece of the brown paper from my last Stampin’ Up! order and cut a section out.  I folded it in half and put it on my Scallop Square die – making sure the fold was inside the cut line of the die – so you only cut three sides of the folded paper.  I ran it through the Big Shot die and ended up with a scallop square with one folded side.  I put snail adhesive on the two sides and left the top open.  I ran each side into the crimper a little bit and rolled it back out.

The front is decorated like the sample in the Holiday Mini catalog.  Punch a circle from Daffodil Delight.  Stamp the Owl on Whisper White using Early Espresso ink and punch out.  Stamp again on Pumpkin Pie card stock and cut out just the trick or treat bag – add this on top of the punched owl – I used  a little bit of Stampin’ Dimensional.  I added a strip of Lucky Limeade.  Stamp Happy Halloween (from Teeny Tiny Wishes) at the bottom.  Insert candy!

These were really quick and they are really cute!  And you don’t even have to buy any bags just make your own.

Have a nice day!

What a clever idea! TFS and now off to case this great idea! Wait…maybe I need to place an order first cuz I always through mine in the recycle bin. oh well…next time I’ll save the paper.

  4. Just thought I’d let you know that I saw these on the Late Night Stampers Yahoo Group and decided to CASE it. I’m making about 150 treat bags for Halloween. The cuttings went into my compost bin. We are REALLY being green!! Thanks so much for sharing your idea! I’m also using it for a class project for next week!!

    Monika,

This is an awesome idea! I have so much of that paper saved “for future use”. This idea may just get me to actually use it. :)

    Thanks for sharing!

I love them. I think I could change it around for my Christmas presents at work. I usually buy everyone either a candy bar or a scratch-it. The last year I bought scratch-its I spent $40 and there were only a few winners totaling $5. It really wasn’t worth my investment. Thanks for your wonderful ideas. I don’t know if I told you this but at convention you came up to the table where I was sitting for breakfast in the hotel. I was so awestruck I couldn’t even say hi to you. I was the one with my mouth wide open and the stars in my eyes. hee hee

I use mine for covering tables but have also used it for faux leather look. It’s already krinkled so you can skip a step. Love your blog. You have so many cute ideas. I don’t do Halloween but I do a few items for the kids in the neighborhood so this will be it for this year. Thanks

I too am stumped with what to do with the brown wrapping paper. I thought about using it as gift wrap, but it looks so wrinkly. How did you get the wrinkles out? Please tell me you didn’t iron it… I hate ironing!! lol
