Big Shot Tips

big-shot1

I have had my Big Shot from Stampin’ Up! and I absolutely LOVE IT!   I thought I would add this page with tips related to the Big Shot so they would be in one place.  Information on here is gathered from various places including Sizzix, Stampin’ Up! and other demonstrators.  I hope you will find it useful and I will add to it as I find new tips to share.

The Big Shot works with ALL competitive dies, and the steel rule dies can cut through an impressive list of 50 different materials, including fabric, foil, and chipboard.

It’s important to note that there are different types of dies.

  • Originals, Bigz, and Bigz XL dies. These steel ruled dies cut through virtually any material and multiple sheets of card stock and Designer Series paper.
  • Sizzlets dies. These dies are small and detailed, often creating scored or perforated details. These dies cut through thin materials, and multiple sheets are not recommended.

The “Sandwiches” -

This is how you layer your platforms, plates, dies and paper when using your Big Shot.

Originals Dies: These dies are rule-based dies measuring 4-3/4″ x 5-1/5″ that cut through various materials such as paper, plastic, and chipboard.  Use them with Standard Cutting Pads.  Create your sandwich as noted below and slide it into the opening of the Big Shot.  Note the rotation of the handle and continue rotate it in the same direction until the sandwich has passed through the opening of the rollers.

  • paper
  • Originals die with the foam side up

BIGZ Dies:  These dies are rule-based dies measuring 5-1/2″ x 6″ that cut through various materials such as paper, plastic, and chipboard.   Use them with Standard Cutting Pads.  Create your sandwich as noted below and slide it into the opening of the Big Shot.  Note the rotation of the handle and continue rotate it in the same direction until the sandwich has passed through the opening of the rollers.

  1. Thank you so much for sharing….may I share this further crediting you as the source?

Recently came across the Vintaj jewlery makings and their embossing folders. Have you tried this with our SU Big Shot. I saw a version of the Big Shot from Sizzix but it looks the same as ours except for color.
    Thanks

    Betsy
