Sneak Peek for the UDI Color Challenge

I have a couple of sneak peeks in my UDI Color Challenge card this week.  The new Stampin’ Up! Occasions Mini Catalog will be starting on January 4th.  There are lots of fun new products in there!  So today I’m going to show you a little peak at two new stamp sets.

The first is the cherry image – it comes from the Mouthwatering stamp set.  And second is the greeting – “you’re so sweet” – it comes from the Sweet Cake stamp set.  Both are part of the Sweet Shop Product Suite.  The card base is Real Red, then a layer that is part More Mustard and part Garden Green.  I tied some Very Vanilla Satin ribbon where the two colors meet.  I also add some paper piercing in the corners.  Stamp the greeting and then add the cherries – stamped on Very Vanilla and cut out.  I used my Stampin’ Write markers to color the stamp.

I’m back with a UDI Color Challenge Card

I took a little break from the UDI Color Challenge but I am back this week with a new card.  Here is the inspiration picture for this week –

And it just so happened that I got my Paper Crafts Magazine in the mail this week too – and guess what they had – a section called Cure for the Winter Blues and it was full of ideas featuring the color blue.  I came across one card that I wanted to try to make into an all Stampin’ Up! card.  I always try to “make-over” the ideas that I like from the magazines.   And this is what I came up with.

And the inside looks like this –

I tried to carry a few elements from the front onto the inside – since the card base was Basic Black I needed to add a Whisper White panel.  I’m not really in love with the inside of the card but I do like how the front turned out.   The front panel was punched on the edge, then stamped with the greeting and then embossed with the Stripes Embossing folder.  I’m not sure that you can see it well in the picture I took but I like how it looks in real life.

UDI Color Challenge #62

Hi all – I hope you are having a productive week leading up to Thanksgiving – is everything ready?  Do you have the turkey, the ham?  We have both.  I have more little turkey milk cartons to make – one for each of the kids although the kids are really kids any more they are becoming adults.  Yesterday was Kyle’s 20th birthday!  I can’t believe I have a 20 year old!  Where did the time go?  Since I needed a card for Kyle for his birthday I used this weeks color challenge for his card.   Here is the inspiration picture –

I thought these colors were good for a masculine card even though the inspiration photo isn’t.  I am working on another project that uses the Peek-a-Boo die for the Big Shot so I had that on my craft table and decided to play with it for this card too.  After playing around with it quite a bit I finally came up with this –

This is the front – I made owls using the owl punch and set them on each of the peek-a-boo windows – each one says “got birthday?” – and when you open the windows you get –

one cupcake and then two cupcakes with candles –

And then on the inside of the card – it’s better than the outside –

This time the peek-a-boo window reveals the best part of the birthday –

The gift card (or cash) – I created a pocket under the window – used the word window punch to make the opening for the gift card – or fold up some case and slide it in there.  So that is the card that Kyle got for his birthday.

Punchy Fun for this week’s Color Challenge

So how was your Halloween?  I think we had the fewest kids ever – one small group came by like 6:30 and then maybe 20 minutes later a couple of kids, then some small groups every 10 -15 minutes – i was giving out hand fulls trying to get rid of the candy.  I’m not sure where everyone was – although I do think we have a lot of families around us that are like us – their kids are now in college and high school and they don’t have any more trick-or-treaters – so maybe that is it our neighborhood is older and we don’t have very many young families around us.

But enough of that – there is a new UDI Color Challenge in town – and I had some fun with this one!

And I really like how well these colors work together – I’m not sure that I would have used them together but I am very happy with how my card turned out.  The idea from my card came from one that I saw on Pinterest – it was a non-SU card but mine of course is made with all Stampin’ Up! products.

It is basically a bunch of punched pieces aligned in a grid on the front of the card.  I layered different pieces and added some embellishments like brads and buttons.  What do you think?  I love it!  See below for all the supplies that I used – I think it is pretty self explanatory – each set of punched pieces is on the card with a Stampin’ Dimensional.  The only hard to figure out thing might be the “thread” in the buttons on the top row – well it isn’t thread at all it is a thin piece of card stock.  You can cut very thin slivers with the Tabletop Paper Cutter – that is what I use for just about all my cutting – I love it.

color challenge with butterflies

I’m taking a quick break from my little paper bag ideas for the UDI Color Challenge today. We are on week #58.

Here is the inspiration picture:

These colors had me stumped for a while.  Wisteria Wonder, Blushing Bride, Calypso Coral, Rich Razzleberry and Very Vanilla.  Very girly colors.  What should I do with them.  It always surprises me how hard it is to use some of these color combinations.  It is certainly called a challenge for a reason.

So I flipped through my Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalog for some little kick of an idea on what to do with these colors.  I finally got near the end of the stamp sets and saw a card with a hand full of butterflies in different colors – it is on page 152.  That was an idea –

So here is the result –

The base is Calypso Coral with a piece of the First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper on it (I know that pulled in some black but that’s a neutral – right?).  The butterflies are in the four colors – Wisteria Wonder, Calypso Coral, Rich Razzleberry, and Blushing Bride.  The images are stamped on Very Vanilla card stock and punched out.  then I punched a matching butterfly out of the colored card stock and cut it in half.  I layered the wings behind the stamped butterflies.  Then I punched a small bitty flower in the colored card stock.  I crinkled it up and then put it in the center.  I attached them to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals and then added a pearl to the center of each flower.

Across the bottom of the card is a strip of Calypso Coral card stock and covered it with Very Vanilla Seam Binding.  Then I stamped “thank you so very much” directly on the ribbon using the Calypso Coral ink.   So what do you think?  For not liking these colors very much I do like how the card turned out.

This card makes me smile

I finished this card and have it sitting on my desk so I remember to write my blog post.  It makes me smile!  I keep looking at it and see all the smiling faces and I smile right back.  I think I’ll just keep it there all week. Do you want to see it too and see if it makes you smile?

See all those smiling dogs – aren’t they so happy looking?  I hope it brings a smile to your day today.  This is my card for the UDI color challenge this week – #56.  Here is the inspiration picture that we had for these colors –

These are all in the Neutrals Collection – Soft Suede, Chocolate Chip, Basic Gray, Crumb Cake and Very Vanilla.  After looking at the colors the first thing that came to mind was dogs and the fun little stamp in Not So Seriously stamp set.  So that is what I decided to use.  Then I decided it would be fun to put a big bone on the card.  Well did you know that you can make a bone from two hearts and a rectangle – yep you can.  That was what I did – I opened My Digital Studio and added two of the heart punches to my page – then I made them bigger and added the rectangle in between.  With My Digital Studio I can line them up nicely too – so I made the bone the size I wanted and printed it out to create a template which I traced onto Very Vanilla card stock.  Then I sponged the edges with Crumb Cake ink and stamped it with the Wonderfully Worn stamp.  That gave me a big bone for the front of my card.

The base of the card is Chocolate Chip and also stamped with Wonderfully Worn.  The dogs were stamped on Very Vanilla and watercolored with the Neutrals WaterColor Crayons and an Aqua-painter.  I did use the Chocolate Chip Stampin’ Write marker for the collars and the spots.  I punched them out with the 2-1/2″ circle punch.  Then cut a 3″ Soft Suede circle with the Big Shot.  Layered those and trimmed off the bottom and attached to my bone.  I tied some Crumb Cake seam binding on the side.  They still make me smile.

Oh My – It is another Tuesday Color Challenge

Oh my – I forgot to create my color challenge post for today.  That is why it is late this morning.  I was so busy yesterday pricing retired items for a sale that I totally forgot.  I did some cleaning out the last few weeks and I have lots of stuff to sell – stamp sets, ribbons, embellishments, Designer Paper, etc.  I will be posting a list soon so check back if you are looking for anything.

Ok so on to this weeks color challenge -here is the inspiration picture for the UDI Color challenge –

I usually pull out my Color Coach and get the color for the week together and let them sit in my craft room while I think about what to do.  This week Wisteria Wonder, Pacific Point, Basic Gray, Basic Black and Whisper White.  Really it was almost a masculine color scheme but the Wisteria kept throwing me off.  I had a couple of new stamp sets on my table that I hadn’t used yet and one was a new set called Under the Big Top.  It has a weightlifter, a seal and an elephant – all of which could be gray, and the blue would fit again it was the Wisteria that was throwing me – a weightlifter wearing Wisteria tights – hmmm.  So which one did I end up using?  I decided on the Seal.

And I used the Wisteria on the cake.  The image is stamped in Jet Black StazOn ink.  Then I watercolored with my aqua painter – the seal is Basic Gray, the stand is Pacific Point, the cake is Wisteria Wonder.  I went over the frosting with a white gel pen.  The card base is Basic Gray with a layer of Basic Black and a layer of Basic Gray Deisgner Series Paper.  I pierced holes on either side of the paper and tied around some White Taffeta.

You could make a whole set of cards from that stamp set using this layout, just adjust the colors to suit each image.

Glossy Card stock

Have you used Glossy White card stock lately?  I know I haven’t.  But it was one of the very first things I was shown when Stampin’ Up! was first introduced to me.  Remember the rainbow ink pads – we used one of those with Glossy card stock and it was a real wow all those years ago.  Well the rainbow ink pads are no longer in our catalog (I’m not sure if they are still around elsewhere) but the Glossy card stock still is.

I was working with it for a project I am creating for the Ustamp with Dawn & Friends Paper Parade class and had a piece lying on my craft table when I pulled up this weeks UDI Color Challenge.   So you know what day it is – Tuesday.  Ryan was hoping it was already Wednesday – he is in Driver’s Ed school this week – all day long for 4 days in a row and he was ready to be done before it even got started.

Well let’s move on to the color inspiration that Gretchen picked our for us this week so I can show you my card.

How is that for some bright inspiration – Peach Parfait, Melon Mambo, Lucky Limeade, Garden Green and Daffodil Delight.  What to do with that I wasn’t sure….but I remembered that piece of Glossy White card stock on my craft table and pulled all my ink pads out in those colors.  I needed a stamp set but which one – the inspiration piece has a lot of circles so I decided on Circle Circus.  And that I would just make a colorful birthday card.  So here is the result –

I stamped the Happy Birthday with Jet Black StazOn and colored it in with Stampin’ Write Markers.  The rest of the Glossy White is stamped with the various circles from Circle Circus in the different challenge colors.  It is all just random.  Then I layered it on a piece of Garden Green card stock, tied a piece of Peach Parfait ribbon around and attached to the base which is Peach Parfait.  Really a quick and simple card.

Gift Givers UDI Color Challenge

So did you like the bats from my last post?  Weren’t they fun?  I can’t wait to fill the ones I made with treats for my boys for Halloween.  But that won’t be for a little while yet.  Now it is Tuesday and time for another UDI Color Challenge.

Are you ready? Guess what week we are on?  Week #53!  What does that mean?  We have completed a full year of color challenges!  I can’t believe it has been a whole year.  And we are starting year two…..

So on to the inspiration picture for this week –

Bashful Blue, Marina Mist, Always Artichoke, Old Olive and Whisper White.  I pulled out my color coach and fanned out these colors.  The first thing that popped into my mind was the stamp set in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini catalog called Gift Givers and the image with the little girl in the snow.  So I pulled it out and created this card –

I stamped the image with Black StazOn on Whisper White card stock and then watercolored it with my aqua painter and classic ink.  Then i punched it out with the Scallop Circle Punch.  Every image in this stamp set matches one of our punches and the images cover all the holidays/seasons – winter, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  I wanted to frame my image with a mat of Always Artichoke – guess what fits perfectly – the Two Tags Die scallop tag.  I cut one tag out with the Big Shot and then put it back on the die in the opposite direction so it would cut out a scallop circle to layer behind my punch.

There is a square of Marina Mist card stock with a piece of the Letters to Santa Designer Series Paper on it.  White Gel pen dots around the edge.  The trim on the side is a piece of Bashful Blue cut with the Clear Scallop Square Die and the Big Shot and then trimmed off one side so I had 2 scallops wide strip.  The Always Artichoke strip was cut from the Petal Cone Die and then run through the crimper.  I tied White Baker’s Twine around them and tied a bow.  I added some gel pen doodles on the scallops.  That’s it.

Tuesday and Tornado’s

Wow what a day we had on Monday.  It started and ended with just rain – which we desperately needed – I think it has been several weeks since we had any.  But the afternoon brought Tornado Warnings and sirens sounding – I think they went off at least 6 different times.  A reported tornado came through near hear in Towne Lake Hills South and Deer Run and then further north in Holly Springs.  My Mother-in-law had some of her trees fall over to the neighbors house and car.  And her power was out for a while.  I was out at the grocery store and just getting home as it all came through – but I didn’t know that was what was happening.  I had to take Tyler’s car so I parked in the driveway and I was debating on the best way to get the groceries out and not have them get more soaked than what they already were.  Then the wind all of a sudden was so fierce I just ran out of the car into the garage and shut it real quick.  I left all the groceries and went to the tv to see what was going on.  A tornado warning and it was right in our area.  A few minutes later it was past us and at the end of our drive way a purple kiddie swimming pool.  Not sure where it came from there aren’t any little kids on our street so who knows.  But no damage here – limbs down and a roof shingle was in the back yard – not sure if it is ours – we didn’t see anything on a brief look at the roof – it could have come from Deer Run or TLHS.  Anyway – not the day that we planned – we didn’t go apple picking like we had hoped.  But all my boys were here at home so I didn’t have to worry about them.  So enough about that.

It is Tuesday and another Color Challenge!  The Utah Diva’s Color Challenge and we are on week #52.   Here is the inspiration picture for this week –

I really like this color combination – some fun happy colors.  I decided to go with a sketch that I found in a paper crafting magazine.

The picture isn’t the best – sorry about that.  It is actually a pretty quick card to make.  The base is Cherry Cobbler.  Then  a panel of Whisper White – instead of centering it on the card it is aligned with the bottom left corner.  I stamped a greeting at the top.  Then I punched circles of Designer Series Paper using my 1-1/4″ Circle punch – Cherry Cobbler, So Saffron, Peach Parfait, and Wild Wasabi.  Then I decided to get out my Bitty Buttons and the Itty Bitty Punch pack and add little buttons to each of the circles.  I used all four shapes.
