Wild Flower Wishes Blog Hop

The February Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop is here – on March 1st!  The month of February was so short we had to push things out just a bit to make sure everyone received their kits and had time to create.  We will be sharing alternate ideas for the February 2018 kit – Wild Flower Wishes.  This kit contains supplies for 9 cards and envelopes, plus the stamp set and ink.

I actually have two sets of cards to show you today that I made mostly out of extra bits from the kit.  One set uses Whisper White Note Cards & Envelopes.  I always find those easy to pair with my Paper Pumpkin kits for making additional cards and alternate ideas.

I used the left over letter stickers and some of the flower stickers.  If you have the linen thread left you could use that or pull some from your stash.  I actually found some that I had left from an older Paper Pumpkin kit.  So really the only thing I added for these was the note cards & envelopes.  Here is a closer look at each one. I also wanted to make a full size set of cards – well I really made these first and then I made the note cards.

For these I added card stock in the colors to match the flowers – Crushed Curry, Berry Burst and Tempting Turquoise.  I also used the bold word stamps out of the stamp set – those weren’t used in the actual cards from the kit.  I’m so glad the stamp sets include extra images to make the set useful once the kit is finished.

For each card I stamped the bold words repeatedly in the background on the card base – I used Sahara Sand ink.  And stamped multiple times before re-inking my image.  The Whisper White layer is 4-1/4″ x 2-3/4″ – so one piece of card stock would give you 8 cards.  I used the corresponding script text and stamped that repeatedly on the white piece.  I added some of the flower stickers and greenery on each one.  The bold words were stamped on a 1/2″ strip of Whisper White.  And underneath is a strip of one of the card layers from the kit.  Some more Linen Thread is wrapped around the layer.  I also stamped the script text on each card in the Sahara Sand ink full strength to finish up the greeting.  The envelopes this time were stamped with the flower images.   Here is a close up of the three cards – the yellow is my favorite.

 

I hope you liked these alternate ideas.  I was quite happy with them and still had supplies to make the regular cards in the kit since I mostly used the stickers and stamps for these.

Heartfelt Love Notes Blog Hop

It’s time for the January Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop sharing alternate ideas for the January 2018 kit – Heartfelt Love Notes.  This kit has a fun Valentine/Love Themed stamp set and is packed with supplies for 16 cards that you can add a little treat to.

I went really simple this time for my alternate idea.  I haven’t yet had a chance to put my kit together or even play with it.  I was running out of time to create something yesterday and by the time I was done it was dark.  So my photos are not the best – they are always better when I take them in the day light.

For my project I decided to make some little notes using the stamp set and ink plus a couple of left over bits from the kit and a few other products that I had in my craft room.  I had the new Narrow Note Cards and Envelopes on my table so I grabbed some of those to create my alternate idea.  They are small – 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″.

If you save the vellum from your kit after you punch out the die cut pieces you can use that as a mask and sponge a heart on the little note card and on the envelope.  Be careful along the edges or grab another scrap or two to cover up anything you don’t want sponged on the outside of the heart.  I used a Stampin’ Sponge and Flirty Flamingo ink.  On the instruction sheet for the Paper Pumpkin kit it gives you a list of coordinating colors.  You could use a different color of pink ink too.

I stamped the words in the Rich Razzleberry ink that came with the kit.  Then I grabbed my Cookie Cutter Builder Punch to punch a little heart from the left over Flirty Flamingo sticker sheet scraps.  You could also use a little tiny heart die cut or another punch with a tiny heart.  Stampin’ Up! has had various ones over the years.  I added the little heart to the notecard – you don’t even need adhesive since its from the sticker scraps.

I sponged and stamped the envelopes too.  That’s it – super simple!

A Paper Pumpkin Blog Hop Nov 2017

It’s time for the November Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop sharing alternate ideas for the November 2017 kit – Back in Plaid.  It’s the companion to the October kit.  And it’s the most popular Paper Pumpkin kit we have ever had!

This November kit is so cute as is!  The stockings are adorable and perfect for so many things.  I want to fill them with little goodies and I’m thinking of leaving them at my neighbors houses. But I wanted to create an alternate idea for you too.  And I had a silly idea.  I tried coming up with other ideas but kept coming back to this one.  It’s a bit “out of the box”.  Yes literally we will be using the Paper Pumpkin boxes for this one!

Bean Bags!  Yes – Stocking Bean Bags for a Toss Your Stocking Game!  It’s the perfect solution if you needed a fun idea for your kids class – a simple game that even the little ones can play.  Turn the stockings into Bean Bags.  It’s super easy – I actually came up with three different ways to create the bean bags.  First for all of them – turn the stockings so the seams are on the inside – you can use a bone folder to help get all the edges pushed out really well.  Then fill each one with beans – I just bought dried beans at the grocery store – the cheapest bag I could find.  Now you can do any one of these things for closing up your bag.

1.  Use a sewing machine and run a stitch across the stocking near the bottom of the plaid design.  Then turn the cuff over the edge.
2. Use some safety pins and pin the stocking shut along the bottom of the plaid design. Then turn the cuff over the edge.  This way you can easily undo it later and use the stockings for something else.
3. Turn the cuff first and then use thread – I used clear thread. And hand stitch the top shut.

Here is a look at how I set up the game:

I used the October and November Paper Pumpkin boxes to create the boxes for throwing the bean bags into.  I used a craft knife to cut right around the Paper Pumpkin logo in the top of each box.  I used some Washi Tape on the edges to make them smooth.  The Pick a Pattern tape is black and white and coordinates perfectly.

Arrange the boxes however you wish.  I placed them end to end.  Giving more points if you got the bag in the hole from the box that was further away.  I assigned 3 points.  Then 2 points for the close box.  And 1 point if its just touching the box but not in the hole.  You could do the points however you want.  I was trying to take my photos and kept throwing the stockings in trying to get more points – I think I played for a good 30 minutes all by myself!

I hope you like this fun out of the box idea!

But I also made an alternate card.  I actually used the stamp sets from both kits and added card stock and a couple of other things to create my card.

I went with the Dapper Denim ink in the November kit and focused on the snowflakes in the kits.  I drew a grid in pencil on a Whisper White square and stamped the large snowflake on each intersection.  I made sure my ink was dry and then erased the pencil lines.  I went back and stamped the small snowflake in between.  It’s layered on a Dapper Denim card base.

The greeting is stamped on Whisper White and punched with the Everyday Label punch and trimmed to make a narrow label.  I added Silver Thread to the back and Rhinestones to the front .  Oh and the card base is embossed with the Softly Falling Embossing Folder – that may be a little hard to see in the photo.  A quick card that I just finished last night.

A Paper Pumpkin Thing October 2017

It’s time for the October Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop sharing alternate ideas for the October 2017 kit – Pining for Plaid.

This time I have a quick idea for you.  My favorite thing to do is to use Note Cards with the pieces from my Paper Pumpkin kits to make it go a little further.

For this kit we have the pretty card bases in the Old Olive plaid pattern.  I took one of those and cut it into 4 pieces giving me enough for 4 note cards.  Then I used the left over bits to decorate it.  I still have plenty of bits left to do more.  I’m in the middle of prepping for some other classes so my play time was minimal.

I added the Whisper White Note Cards and some Gold Thread plus Old Olive ink.  I stamped one of the left over circle bits – this one looks like an ornament with the gold top.  And used up an extra set of the banners.  Super quick an easy.

If you didn’t notice this kit also coordinates with the Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper in our Holiday Catalog.  So you could pull in some of that paper if you don’t want to cut up your card bases like I did for this card design.

A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop September 2017

It’s time for another Paper Pumpkin Blog Hop sharing alternate ideas for the September 2017 kit – Layered Leaves.

Lately I really love the Paper Pumpkin Kits just the way they are.  I want to make the projects that are in them and don’t want to use up the supplies to make something different.  It’s a real struggle.  And this kit was no different.  So what I decided to do was set aside all the pieces that I needed to make the projects as intended and then see what was left over.  And work only with those left overs to create my alternate ideas.

For this Layered Leaves kit there is quite a bit left over – not the boxes or the card bases and envelopes but a bunch of the leaves and tags. So I decided to focus on those.  First I created this card.

All I added was Soft Suede card stock and an embossing folder.  I wanted to mimic the kit – and the cards and boxes are embossed.  I used the new Dynamic folder called Layered Leaves – ha – it has the same name as this kit!  Surely it was meant to be.  Plus it’s probably my favorite embossing folder right now.  All the rest came from my kit.  The gold foil strip is from the sheet of Gold Foil Leaf stickers – I just cut an edge off that sheet and it’s adhesive so it sticks right to the front of my card.  I used a left over piece of the metallic Baker’s Twine and pulled out the metallic piece leaving me just the twine which I tied on the tag.  I cut the metallic bit in half and the folded it up and stuck it to the back of the tag – like little sticks or tendrils hanging out with those leaves.  And that’s it.

Then I decided to make a set of tags – they are sized to fit inside one of those pillow boxes from the kit.  So you could use that as a little gift for someone.

For these I added the Soft Suede card stock, the Layered Leaves Dynamic Embossing Folder, the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch and Linen Thread. And some Old Olive ink to stamp the small leaf on each tag.  I cut the card stock 2″ wide, punch the top end and embossed.  On each one I added a leaf from the kit and a tag.

And believe it or not I still have more pieces left.  How far can you stretch your left over kit supplies?

I have a couple of cards that I made using the August Paper Pumpkin Kit – Giftable Greetings.  For these I’ve used the stamp set and the ink that came in the monthly kit and then added some card stock that I had already on hand.

The Thinking of You card also has some Pearls and Very Vanilla Baker’s Twine added to it. The Sympathy card has an added strip of Designer Series Paper that’s been stapled on.

I just received my September kit and plan to play with it this weekend to create an alternate idea for this month’s A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop happening on the 28th.  So be sure to stop in an see all the ideas that our group has.

A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop August 2017

This month – August 2017 – we are sharing alternate ideas using the Giftable Greetings Paper Pumpkin Kit.  The kit came with supplies to make 8 cards, a gift box and tags.  Lately I’ve been pretty happy with the project just as they are.  And this month was no different but for some reason I had another idea for the little gift box.  It is really a pretty little box and while it is perfect to fit the cards and envelopes inside that’s not what I did with it.  I turned it into a bank for saving money toward something fun – like a new stamp set or bundle or if you are a demo you could save money to pay for the next OnStage event!  And then I designed a card that would go along with the box to say Congrats You Did It!

Here is a little more info on the box.  I used the Classic Label punch to make a guide for my hole in the plastic cover.  Punch out card stock and then use snail or a glue dot to place it where you want the hole.  I used a self healing mat and a craft knife to cut the hole out (it’s an old Stampin’ Up! craft knife).

To make the hole prettier from the front I used a scrap of Night of Navy card stock and first punched the Classic Label punch and then went around the opening with the new Everyday Label punch (coming out on Sept. 1 in the Holiday Catalog).  I then trimmed down each side with my cutter so I had a nice frame to go around the cut hole.

Inside the box I added a piece of Calypso Coral card stock.  I stamped a few flowers on it and glued down a couple of the little flowers from the kit.  I finished with the ribbon, tag and pieces from the kit.  Now each week save some money inside your box and work you way to something fun.  Or gift it to someone that needs to save for something special and then give them this card once they achieve their goal.

For this card I used a piece of Night of Navy card stock for the base and then took one of the cards from the kit and cut it up – the front piece was cut to 5″ x 3-3/4″ and used on the front of my card.  The back piece was trimmed to 5-1/4″ x 4″ and used on the inside of my card.  I stamped You Did It on a strip of Pool Party to add to the Congrats oval.  The rest of the elements are left over pieces from the kit including the Navy Baker’s Twine.

Today’s Blog Hop features ideas using the June Kit – One in a Melon!  It’s a super sweet kit with cards and bags perfect for summer.

The kit comes with supplies to make 4 treat bags – but what if you really need 8.  I decided I wanted to use the supplies and figure out how to get more treat bags and only add a minimal amount of supplies.  So I deconstructed the bag and spent some time looking at it trying to figure out what to do.  I finally thought that if I took each piece and split it in two that would give me twice as many pieces.  Here is what I created:

I used one of the 3″ x 6″ Gusseted Cello Bags for this little treat.  I took the watermelon box in the kit and cut the front and back panels into 3″ wide pieces.  I added new score lines across the bottom to create the bottom of the bag and the little front flap.  I attached the tissue paper to the white side to create the “inside” of my bag.  I folded and stuck inside my cello bag.  I used just a bit of snail on the bottom of the bag to hold the little flap down.

I filled it with watermelon candy.  For the tag I cut the yellow piece in half and that gave me a banner.  Cut the circle tag in half and stamp the watermelon. And use a scrap of white to stamp the words on a banner.  I punched a little hole in each and tie together with the Baker’s Twine.  I couldn’t really split up the little clothes pins so use those on half the bags and then grab some other clips in your stash for the second set of 4 bags – I used our Gold Binder Clips.

I was also in need of some tags and used the stamp set to make these real quick.

I die cut circles with my Layered Circle Framelits, cut them in half and stamped using the stamps from my Paper Pumpkin kit.  I used scraps of white and stamped THANKS on each one – stamp is from Banners for You stamp set.  I punched them with the Classic Label punch and punched again to create the banner end – see my book mark post on how to do that.

I finished with Black Baker’s Twine and a little rhinestone on each.  Every circle makes two tags.

A Paper Pumpkin Thing Blog Hop

Did you receive your April Paper Pumpkin kit?

It’s full of product and Sara created some fun watercolor cards for everyone to make following the directions in the kit and her video. But for today’s post I’m joining in with a group of talented demonstrators who have created some other ideas using items from this kit.  One of the wonderful things about the Paper Pumpkin community are all the different ideas that everyone comes up with.   So join us today as we bring you some more ideas for this month’s A Sara Thing Paper Pumpkin kit.

I made two different cards.  For this first card I wanted to try doing something “different” with the acrylic flowers.  I used a piece of watercolor paper (you can use a piece from the kit) and a spritzer filled with some water and Rich Razzleberry reinker.  I took some paper towels and placed the watercolor paper down and placed the flowers on top (I put the glittery side face down).  Then spritzed over the top.

Then carefully remove the flowers.  Since they are acrylic just wipe them off to clean them.

My first photo I spritzed a lot and decided it was too much so this second one was a little bit less.  Once it dried I used the watercolor pencil from my kit and added some color to each flower.

Then use the paint brush dipped in some water to smooth it out throughout the petals.  Repeat for each flower.

I added some Basic Black Baker’s Twine around this piece before adding it to the front of my card.  You can use the base from the kit or create your own.  And be sure to add a Whisper White liner on the inside of the card.  The greeting is stamped on a Whisper White banner piece. And finish with one of the acrylic flowers.

I hope you like this different twist on how to use those flowers.

I made another quick card with some additional supplies using the technique from the kit – I just create a rainbow on my watercolor piece using the watercolor pencils, the paint brush and water.

The card base is Rich Razzleberry.  I also used the Owl Builder punch to punch out some tiny hearts which I colored with the watercolor pencil and blended with the brush.  Finish with some stamping.  Sweet and easy.

I adore you

A quick little note card made with the stamps from the January 2017 Paper Pumpkin kit.

I added some supplies to create this little note card:

• Whisper White Note cards & Envelopes
• Whisper White card stock – a front layer and the heart
• Stitched Shapes Framelit Dies – to cut the circle
• Gold Thread – or use what is left from your kit
• Metallic Enamel Shapes – for the little gold heart

Use the stamps and ink from your kit.  And you can also use dimensionals and glue dots from the kit – I had left overs.

I finished up my little treat boxes from the Paper Pumpkin kit and mailed them out to my boys today.

I did a tiny bit of altering – on the top flap of the box that gets folded over I trimmed away the back and sides so that it was just a top flap that folded over the arrow.  I also put a piece of Tear and Tape on that flap to secure it down and then put the little gold heart sticker on the back. On one box I moved the arrow to the front and put it under my heart – that was for mailing purposes – when i was trying to get it in the little padded envelope I was using the arrow came poking out of it on the side when it was placed under the flap.  It actually was cute under the heart going across the front too.
